Data Management Plans and Data Archiving
Managing, sharing, and archiving research data is of increasing importance to the productivity of the research community. Federal funding agencies and some foundations are recognizing the importance of research data by developing policies and requirements for data managment. NIH data sharing policy illustrates the rational for such sharing:
Data sharing promotes many goals of the NIH research endeavor. It is particularly important for unique data that cannot be readily replicated. Data sharing allows scientists to expedite the translation of research results into knowledge, products, and procedures to improve human health. In NIH's view, all data should be considered for data sharing. Data should be made as widely and freely available as possible while safeguarding the privacy of participants, and protecting confidential and proprietary data.
Recent announcements from National Science foundation (NSF) will affect all grant proposals submitted as of January 18, 2011. This web site will help with general advice on the data management plan and provide links to Rutgers resources for archiving data.
